Is Zija International a scam?
It looks like mlm companies have taken the internet by storm the last 5 to 10 years which can be a bad or a good thing. Zija is also a company that is being promoted through mlm which can people mixed feelings. Whether you are someone that are interested in buying their products or you want to take part in their compensation plan, you need to read this review.
Someone might have approached you in the street with this business opportunity or a relative might have told you about this company, either way you need to get the facts about this company and mlm in general before you can think about getting excited.
So is Zija International a scam that you should avoid at all costs? To give you a short answer I am going to say no, but it does not mean that you should start to feel a relief or jump right into joining the company. As most of my MLM reviews, I am going to highlight to major or critical factors that are very important. The first is the products from the company that you will be promoting or buying and secondly is the compensation plan.
Did you know that without products, this company would be illegal because they will then represent a pyramid scheme? Let us delve a bit into their products to see whether it is worthy of your time.
Zija weight loss products
This company is mainly focused in promoting weight loss products such as protein supplements and tea. Through a customer’s perspective I do not find the need of any of these products. People always think that there is a secret pill or powder that will make them lose weight and this is all just a fantasy. Many companies will try to sell you on this garbage in order to make money off of you.
The second problem is that the products are not unique. There are so many other mlm companies that sell the same type of products which makes this one a copycat. The mlm industry is a very competitive one especially if you are selling weight loss products. Quality and uniqueness is the 2 major factors that the product of an mlm company need to fulfill and without it, the company will not last long. Below is a list of some of the products that you will find:
- XM Protein
- Super mix
- Smart mix
- Energy mix
- Tea
- Energy mix
- Energy drink
- Skin care products
If you can also find similar products cheaper through your local store, then why would you be interested in the products of these companies?
Zija compensation plan
The compensation plan is just as important as the products that you will be promoting and this is why I put a lot of emphasis on how you will be earning money. For the plan I would give it a 6/10 because it was not that complicated, but they could have done better. In total they have 18 levels that you can reach which are just too many. They could have done this with a maximum of 10 levels.
How long is it going to take you to explain each and every level to the person(s) that you want to enroll? It will take you almost forever to do this and it is at this critical point where the person will decided whether they would want to join or not. To explain the compensation plan in to your prospects in less than 15 minutes is very critical.
I am not going to go into each level, but I will explain how it all fits together. Below is the 2 pillars of how you will make money with them:
1. Retail sales
The very first level is the distributor level where if you can sell any of the products, you will earn at a commission rate of 25%. This money will come from the direct sales that you personally generate and is also the easiest to do.
2. Binary Legs
At the beginning you will only be able to have 2 groups that are coming from 2 direct referrals. As your 2 downlines start to grow several generations deep, you will start to have 2 groups that will contribute to the group volume. You need to qualify as a builder in order to earn a 15% commission rate off the minimum of 500 group volume that one of your legs might reach.
Each time your legs have reached a cycle, you will earn your commissions. Your smallest leg need to earn a minimum of 500 GV (Group Volume) in order for a cycle to happen. When your team grows it will also earn more group volume. Each level needs a specific amount of group volume for you to qualify and your personal referrals must also reach a specific level before you can climb the ladder.
There are more to the compensation plan than this, but I believe that this information is enough for anyone to make their final choice.
Is Zija the company for you?
There are hundreds of other “mlm companies” and the majority of them are pyramid schemes in disguise. Zija is a legit company with their own product line, but the products are not that interesting and there is nothing unique about them.
There are other mlm companies that also sell weigh loss products that are more interesting. Some of them even have training programs that goes with the products to add more value to them. The compensation plan was also too much for me. Remember that your enrollees need to explain this very same plan to their referrals so somewhere along the line your business will not grow anymore.
I also do not know why this company had to go out and create 18 levels because this makes it only harder to grow your business. So it will all depend on whether you have enough experience in this and if you are up for the challenge.
MLM vs Affiliate marketing
It is obvious to say that affiliate marketing is a much simpler way to earn a passive income online than MLM. There are companies such as Amazon and Linkshare that are dying for people to promote their products online. For each product you sell, you will earn a commission.
There are no complicated levels and you also do not need to try to recruit your friends and family members in order to make money with this.

I’ve been roped in to various MLM companies before, though not Zija International specifically. I dislike how they make up for their poor product quality by focusing on their “employees” warm market.
I just feel angry when I think of those poor moms and dads taking out their hard earned cash because they thinking they’re helping “grow” their children’s business.
All they’re doing is line the wallets of the upper management.
I agree with your points- certainly affiliate marketing is more ethical, and at least you’re promoting products that people have an actual need for!
People can get desperate sometimes when it comes to making money online. I know of people that are making a lot of money with mlm but there are only a few of them. It takes a special type of personality to make money with mlm. Zija International is not that bad, but I have seen better.
Great review.
As someone who is passionate about networking and MLM i found this review to be well written an informative.
Based on my own research this is just another ‘me-too’ opportunity. I really don’t think these guys have anything to offer people that some of the more established companies in the marketplace can’t offer.
Your review will save people a lot of time and money because you’ve openly highlighted the negative flaws and written this post from a position of integrity.
Well done.
MLM companies in the weight loss niche should be taken with caution because it is important to know what we put into our bodies.
The weight loss niche is also too saturated to make money especially with MLM.
I agree that affiliate marketing is better and more user friendly than MLM, most of MLM are border line scams. Affiliate Marketing you know what you are promoting, but I have had a bad experience with affiliatebot they don’t link your account right so when people Click on the banner it doesn’t record the click or anything and it doesn’t take them to a landing page it directs them to an unknown page. Other than that program I am happy with affiliate marketing, and I agree with what you said.
Hi Daniel
Most people that had a bad experience with Affiliate Marketing are those that bought a bad product. With the blueprint that you will learn from Wealthy Affiliate, you will be able to use that same blueprint to promote products in other niches as well.
Awesome you do this. Also give negative reviews build huge trust. Thank you for this. Was about to check that stuff out but did not know it sucked this much. Hate thsose scammers. Especially the ones on the food industry. Only out there to make some extra cash. Keep up the good work, Cheers
I am very cautious when buying food or supplements from any company because how do you know what is inside the products? Most of the grain related food are GMO’s and I do not see it mentioned on the label,
Affiliate marketing is the way to go, good post showing the contrast between the two. I have researched MLM companies before and have seen some people do very well. But everyone is looking for the “get rich quick” schemes out there and i hate to be harsh about it – it does not exist. Affiliate marketing takes time but it pays off in the end!
The people that make the big bucks with mlm are those that are in the top 2% of the pyramid. I saw statistics that a larger majority of people are making 30% of the money in affiliate marketing which is much more than what I can say for mlm.
Ugh. MLMs give me a bad taste in my mouth. Mediocre products backed by a mediocre company. There are exceptions, for sure, but at the end of the day all they want is to line the pockets of the people above you all while spouting how they are ‘helping’ you. Great write up, Valie. I hope to read more of your reviews.
Thanks KC
It looks like most mlm companies are launching their business in the weight loss niche which creates a lot of competition.
Hello there Valie, first and foremost thank you for this very informative review of yours.
I hate MLM. I can generalize it even with legit MLMs. I have been in a couple of an MLM companies before I discovered affiliate marketing and I really really hate that part of my life.
I’m not good at promoting hyped claims about a product that certainly doesn’t deliver that much. In short I have totally, utterly failed within those company.
Thanks to this Zija International review of yours many people will surely avoid the terrible fate that I suffered from MLM companies.
Hi Norstad
I am sorry to hear about your failure in the past because of mlm companies. I can remember the days when I used to go to the conference meetings where those on the top bragged about their earning and how their business are growing.
The guys on the bottom where not that fortunate. I also have a bad experience with mlm.
Well it certainly sounded dodgy enough but as I got further into the review I realized it was indeed a MLM. I’ve been working full time online for seven years now and not once have I ever come across a MLM that is worthwhile. Pyramid schemes are set up for 70% of users to fail – every time unfortunately!
Hi Chris
That is just the nature of mlm companies because of the compensation plan. Only the few on top are making money with it.
I am grateful that you did this review. I am always looking for chances to work from home. To find a good company that the products are good to sell to people I know. Zija isn’t it.
I have tried a couple of MLM’s. One was weight loss the other was cell phones. It always seems like I’m selling something that is overpriced compared to Amazon.
It’s like they have to charge alot of money just to pay the levels. What I like is the chart you showed comparing MLM and affiliate sales. Looks like something to check out. I imagine there are scams there too. Right? How do I know who is a scam and who isn’t? Anyway Thanks for this report. Robert
Hi Robert
There are also a couple of scams in the affiliate marketing industry. There will always be scams when it comes to the make money online industry.
It is hard to find an mlm company where the products are cheaper than that of our local stores.
I’ve had bad experiences with MLM schemes so I’d definitely stay away from this one.
Affiliate marketing is much better than MLM because you have more control over all aspects of your online business website(s) and are not depending on the actions of others. Although you may not get as much money initially using affiliate marketing (in most cases) that you might get with referring new members to a MLM, I think in the long run affiliate marketing is much more sustainable.
Hi Ian
Affiliate marketing also has its downsides. It all depends on the niche that you go into and it is so important to choose the right niche.
Take a look at some of the testimonies of people that are making money with affiliate marketing to have an idea.
Top notch review Valie. I’ve only ever seen MLMs for getting rich quick, so to see that they can be based around anything is really surprising, I find that MLM companies see the customer as a source of income rather than, well, a customer. The fact that you have to buy a product to promote it always turns me away.
In your experience, have you ever seen a quality MLM service? I genuinely don’t believe there is one. Affiliate marketing is way funner. What’s the best program for it?
Hi Makki
There are few better ones which has good and helpful products, but overall I would not recommend the MLM path for anyone.
